Ruth Roman is the youngest daughter born to Lithuanian as well as Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. As a child, Ruth Roman's carnival-barker father passed away and made her mother Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as cleaner or waitress to help them remain alive. Ruth was a student and was poor throughout Boston Massachusetts in the tenement district. Following only two school years she left for the acting career.
